According to the church doctrine, World War III would happen, then god would come to take their people to heaven and deal judgment on the rest of the world.

This was supposed to happen at any moment.

Because “father was coming soon,” many things became pointless.

No point in going to school to prepare for a future that wouldn’t happen. 

No point having worldly friendships and relationships when everything was about to burn.

No point accumulating wealth when you could use it to support the gospel, a far nobler and lasting cause.

I was still a college student when I joined. I failed all my senior year classes because I stopped caring, my mind filled with thoughts of being whisked away from this world and how I could make that happen sooner.

I couldn’t graduate due to my bad grades and didn’t reapply, effectively dropping out. And I know for a fact I’m not the only one.
