I may have been manic when I joined the church and made irreversible mistakes as a result.

Mistakes like not being there for my best friend, triggering my ex to attempt suicide, and failing my classes because my mind was preoccupied.

But the mania didn’t last forever. The church and its methods and teachings kept me stuck there even after the euphoria faded.

They kept me busy, and they kept me afraid.
