There was a dry erase board in the church displaying a list of studies and the names of new members in the process of completing them.

The board was exciting. Each study was going to reveal some mind blowing tidbit of “truth.”

The board made me feel like I had to keep coming until I’d checked off all the boxes. I’m a completionist after all.

Yet I had misgivings. The board is kinda manipulative, I told Thomas. It’s like holding a carrot in front of us to keep coming.
