These are some of the manipulation techniques (forms of information control) that I noticed at the beginning.
1. We were assigned to a person to “take care” of us by calling several times a week to make appointments and controling what information we were fed, when.
2. The “board” gave us an incentive to keep coming back.
3. We were told not to go on the internet or seek info about the church from other sources besides the church.
4. We were separated from other new people who could potentially make us question the church’s teachings or feed us the wrong info at the wrong time.
5. We weren’t allowed to meet with church members outside the church unless it was arranged by a church leader.
Later, I’ll post about manipulation techniques that I only came to know about once I became a senior, “faithful member” of the church.
