Hello! I’m Luca, a former WMSCOG member, and this website is the home for never again, my story about spending a decade in the World Mission Society Church of God with untreated mental illness.

Each chapter contains a written narrative and an audio file that you can also listen to if you prefer. Click here for a full listing of chapters. You can also listen through the entire story in chronological order using this site’s audio player or on Spotify.

This story is incomplete and continuously updating. If you want to be in the loop, follow me on Instagram to read the stories as soon as they post.

Don’t know where to start? How about at the beginning:

chapter one: the hook

Never again will I let my freedom be stolen from me.
Never again will I betray my values.
Never again will I lose my sense of self.

  • epilogue, sort of

So, technically that’s my story, from joining the cult to leaving it. Of course, there’s much more to it. Leaving a cult isn’t an immediate cure-all, it’s just the beginning of the journey to heal and rebuild one’s identity. But the chronological unfolding of events is for the most part finished.

  • 86. running away for real

Before leaving the cult, what worried me the most was the thought of ruining my “perfect” family. My parents had bought a townhouse in New Windsor that we were renting out. It was a nice house and the three of us—Thomas, my daughter, and I—were supposed to be happy in it.

  • 85. can’t fix it

In my last few months at the church, I started cutting my hair.

  • 84. going to hell anyway

Besides playing the violin, I had another mental escape: I started to read and write fanfiction about a TV show.

  • 83. moms’ group

When I got back to New York, I was removed from all my former activities (graphics team and Big Shine) and placed in the “moms’ group” to focus on my faith by preaching and studying.
